Johann Adam Klein (1792 - 1875)

Klein copied animals from Wouwermann. He took drawing lessons with Ambrosius Gabler, who encouraged him to study nature and to work on his animal drawings. From 1811 to 1818, Klein studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. He travelled with Johann Christian Erhard and other colleagues to Southern Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy and Switzerland. Klein filled 52 sketch-books and used motifs from them for prints and oil paintings. He spent the years 1819 to 1821 in Rome, 1821 to 1837 in Nuremberg, then in Munich. From 1848 his eyesight deteriorated, and from 1849 he received a Bavarian state pension.
