Anton Doll (1826 - 1887)

Doll was a German landscape painter and representative of the Munich school. His paintings show his native region – the city of Munich and the rural life in the surroundings. He travelled to Salzburg, Switzerland and Upper Italy. The depiction of peasant life in romanticised landscapes is a recurrent motif in his work. Doll showed early evidence of talent in drawing, and was encouraged by portrait-painter and lithographer Franz Dahmen (1793–1865). After abandoning his law studies at Munich University, he devoted himself exclusively to painting. From 1852 he was a member of the Munich Kunstverein.
