Bartolomeo Altomonte (1694 - 1783)
Bartolomeo trained with his father Martino (due to competition, he Italianised his name from Hohenberg to Altomonte), who was court painter to Polish King John III Sobieski. Bartolomeo’s studies took him in 1717 to Marcantonio Franceschini in Bologna, in 1719 to Benedetto Luti in Rome and in 1721 to Francesco Solimena in Naples. From 1722 he spent several years working with his father in St. Florian, and in 1730 he married Anna Maria Rendl from Linz. From 1732 he lived in Vienna, and was appointed court painter. After 1736 he worked in Upper Austria, living in Linz from 1737. He became a member of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in 1770.
