Carl Robert Kummer (1810 - 1889)

Kummer remained faithful to Dresden all his life. From 1825 to 1828 he studied at the Dresden Academy of art with Carl August Richter (1770–1848), then for three years with Norwegian landscape painter Johann Christian Clausen Dahl (1788–1857). In 1831 he journeyed to the Alps, and with Johann Anton Castell (1810–1867) into the Salzkammergut, before visiting Italy, Slovenia and Hungary. His marriage to Wilhelmine Auguste Neisse in 1843 afforded him financial independence, and he made further study trips to countries including Switzerland, Scotland, Portugal and Egypt. Kummer rendered his impressions in a large number of paintings.
