David Teniers the Younger (1610 - 1690)

Trained by his father, David Teniers the Elder (1582–1649), studied the work of Paulus Bril (1554–1626) and the landscapes of Jan Brueghel the Elder (1568–1625) – whose daughter Anne he married in 1637. Court painter to Don John of Austria (1629–1679) in 1663 he achieved the founding of the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Genre scenes and groups were his primary focus. His early work follows the peasant genre of Adriaen Brouwer (1605/06–1638).
