Friedrich Philipp Reinhold (1779 - 1840)

Friedrich Philipp was the son of painter Johann Friedrich Leberecht Reinhold (1744–1807). Both his half- brothers, Heinrich (1788–1825) and Gustav (1798–1849), and three of his sons worked as painters. He studied from 1797 to 1804 at the Dresden Academy, where he met Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840). From 1805 to 1811 he attended the Vienna Academy, and settled permanently in Vienna in 1813. He first exhibited at the Academy in 1816. Friedrich Philipp was associated with the Nazarene painters and their Romantic, religious representation, though this is only partially reflected in his work. Besides landscapes, he painted portraits.
