Fritz Schider (1846 - 1907)

Fritz Schider, son of a vinegar and spirits manufacturer in Salzburg, was brought to the Munich Academy by Hans Makart in 1868. He quickly connected with the group around Wilhelm Leibl, with whom he shared artistic views and to whom he was related. In 1876, he accepted a teaching assignment in Basel, where he wrote an atlas of anatomy and studied the paintings of Hans Holbein, which were of great significance for his work.
