Gustav Reinhold (1798 - 1849)

Gustav was the son of portrait painter Johann Friedrich Leberecht (1744-1807) and the brother of painters Friedrich Philipp (1779-1840) and Heinrich (1788-1825). He trained as a joiner in Berlin, before moving to Vienna, to Friedrich Philipp, in 1820. Under the influence of his brother, he turned to painting, and studied from 1824 to 1827 at the Vienna Academy of FineArts. From around 1835 he worked in Berchtesgaden. Together with Friedrich Gauermann, he travelled to the Salzkammergut, Tyrol and Upper Italy in 1836, 1839 and 1843. The surroundings of Salzburg and Berchtesgaden, and particularly the Königssee, are among his most common motifs.
