Johann Heinrich Schönfeld nach/after (1609 - n.a.)
In the Residenzgalerie’s 1927 inventory book, this painting, purchased in 1924, was attributed by Franz Martin to German painter, draughtsman and copper engraver Joachim Sandrart (1606 Frankfurt am Main – 1688 Nuremberg), who was also an art theorist and historian. Later publications followed this stylistic ascription. As Roswitha Juffinger explains in the catalogue for Prince-Archbishop Guidobald von Thun (exh. cat. Salzburg, 2008, p 288), the painting is a copy of a work by Johann Heinrich Schönfeld (for biographical details see p 328), now in the Augustinian canons’ monastery in Reichersberg am Inn.
