Lucas van Valckenborch (n.a. - 1597)

Valckenborch’s meticulously executed landscapes, often small-scale, indicate the influence of Pieter Brueghel the Elder (1525– 1569). In 1564 he became a master in the Mechelen guild, and from 1577 he is documented as court painter to Archduke Matthias (1557– 1619), governor-general of the Netherlands. When the Archduke moved to Linz, the artist travelled with him. From 1593 he lived in Frankfurt am Main. His last paintings date from the year of his death.
