Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640)

Rubens trained with Adam van Noort (1562–1641). In 1600 he went to Italy, visiting Venice,Rome, Genoa and Mantua, where he studied and copied classical Greek and Roman art and Italian Renaissance works, and produced altar paintings and portraits for the nobility, in the new baroque style. Commissions came from the Spanish court, Rudolf II (1552–1612) in Prague and Archduke Albrecht VII (1559–1621) with infanta Isabella Clara Eugenia (1566–1633) in Antwerp.
