Dreifaltigkeitsgasse in Salzburg

At the age of 16, Hubert copied the detail view of the right-hand side of the Salzach from the cosmorama "View of the Dreifaltigkeitsgasse" (Salzburg Museum, inv. no. 51-25) by his father, who executed the left-hand figure in traditional costume after the portrait of Frau Bscheidlin (Salzburg Museum, inv. no. 43-30, cf. inv. no. GP 3416-49).
The viewer is taken through the Mitterbach (or Lodron) arch (demolished in 1891/92) to the St Andrew (or Sauter) arch, behind which the tower of St Andrew’s Church (demolished in 1860) is visible. In the background, Hohensalzburg Fortress towers above the town. On the left, between the two arches, stands Holy Trinity Church, built by Fischer von Erlach in 1694. To the right of it is the Paris Lodron Primogeniture Palace, one of the casualties of the Great Fire of 1818. This architecture piece is enlivened by variously dressed staffage figures in everyday scenes.
