Flora

Nancy Spero and Leon Golub visited the exhibition rooms of the Residenzgalerie in the summer of 1994. Having seen the collection, they accepted the invitation of Museum director Roswitha Juffinger to create new works for exhibition. The installations "Nancy Spero. A Cycle in Time" and "Leon Golub. Update" were presented in the Residenzgalerie from 13 August to 3 December 1995. Spero decided on two paintings as points of reference for works of her own, the decisive criterion being the figures. From Bartolomeo Altomonte’s "The Four Seasons paying Homage to Chronos" Spero chose an auxiliary figure, which she modified in a work created specially for the exhibition. Her "Flora" takes up this figure in a lithograph which she donated to the Residenzgalerie collection in 2001, with a dedication to Roswitha Juffinger.
