His education completed, Dine moved to New York in 1958, where he taught and devoted himself to his artistic career. In 1993–1995 he came to teach at the Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts, and collaboration with the Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac and the Residenzgalerie produced the exhibition project "Jim Dine. Untersberg 1993–1994", for which he designed this poster, still listed in the inventory of the Museum. The exhibition was held from 24 July until 30 September 1994 in the Residenzgalerie.
During the first half of 1994, Dine experimented with the Untersberg in various formats showing studies, moods, light situations, etc, following the long tradition of depictions of the Untersberg which started at the beginning of the 19th century. The massif is a landmark visible from afar.
