Cornelis de Heem (1631 - 1695)
Trained in the Antwerp studio of his father, Jan Davidszoon de Heem, Cornelis matured into an independent artistic personality and in 1660 became a member of the Antwerp guild. In 1655 and 1657 he evidently sold paintings by other artists, sent to him in Brussels by his father. From June to December 1667 he lived with his wife and two children in his father’s house in Utrecht. His whereabouts between 1667 and 1676 are not documented. In 1676 he lived in IJsselstein, near Utrecht, before moving that same year to The Hague, where he appears in the guild books until 1684. From 1691/92 until his death he lived in Antwerp.
