Franz Melling

Biographical details unknown. The Franz Melling who painted this picture may possibly have been a mining official who was born in Klagenfurt in 1820 and died in Graz in 1892. He collected fossils and published brief palaeontological notes ("Fossile Fische von Eibiswald in Steiermark", p 153. Vienna 1867) and was mentioned several times by Adolph von Morlot in a communication on the geological conditions of Raibl (year-book, 1, p 255-256. Vienna 1850).
