Gerrit Adriaensz. Berckheyde (1638 - 1698)

Berckheyde was the master of the Dutch townscape. In 1660 he travelled through Germany, and was court artist to Charles I Louis (1617–1680), Elector Palatine, in Heidelberg. He moved to The Hague in 1672. His renderings of famous houses, canals and squares are topographically precise. The linear perspective and classicistic forms frequently used in his later vedute indicate that he was familiar with the graphic work of Hans Vredeman de Vries (1527–1609), as well as with the paintings of Pieter Saenredam (1597–1665).
