Joris van der Haagen (um/c 1615 - 1669)
Ha(a)gen presumably trained with his father, Abraham. In 1630 he worked in Amsterdam, 1635 to 1639 in Arnhem and 1639 in Rotterdam, before building a house in The Hague in 1639, in the same neighbourhood as Jan van Goyen, Paulus Potter and Pieter Jansz. Post. In 1644 he was registered as a citizen. In 1643 he was a member, in 1651 deacon and in 1653 head of the painters’ guild, and in 1656 he co-founded the "Confrérie Pictura". Jan Jansz. Smidt was his apprentice. In 1658 Ha(a)gen found himself in dire financial straits. He produced individual portraits, panoramas and topographical views, but mainly paintings and drawings of wooded landscapes.
