Ludwig Halauska (1827 - 1882)

Halauska studied from 1847 to 1850 with Thomas Ender (1793–1875) and Franz Steinfeld (1787–1868) at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. In 1861 he became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus, in 1870 of the Vienna Academy. Together with Rudolf von Alt (1812–1905) and others, in 1879 he was commissioned by the Bulgarian government to paint watercolours from photographs of the Russo-Turkish War, as a gift for Czar Alexander II. He travelled in the Rhine-Main region, the Bavarian Alpine upland, Salzburg, the Salzkammergut and other regions of Austria. Halauska’s style developed from the realistic Biedermeier landscape towards mood Impressionism.
