Peter Anton Lorenzoni (1721 - 1782)

Lorenzoni probably did an apprenticeship with Matthias Lamp in Romeno/Trento around 1735/36. From 1743 to 1745 he studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. 1740 is the first mention of him as an aspiring painter in Salzburg, where he was probably employed in Peter Hölzl’s painting workshop, which he bought in 1750, a year after marrying Hölzl’s widow. In 1754 he engaged as apprentice his nephew Johann Nepomuk della Croce, according to whose autobiography Lorenzoni had spent four years with Paul Troger. A further pupil was Gandolph Ernst Stainhauser. In 1760 Lorenzoni was appointed court painter to Prince-Archbishop Sigismund von Schrattenbach.
