Empty wine-vessels and Dionysus enthroned on a barrel, holding a thyrsus staff, identify the boisterous company in the Triumph of Bacchus with Dancing Nymphs. Satyr and amoretto join playfully in the nymphs’ uninhibited dance. The print shows the bacchanalia far removed from the moral dictates and courtly etiquette of western Christian culture.
